We’re a few weeks into the season now with all the Jets National League teams having been in action.
W1 got off to a flyer in the John Syer Trophy beating both Nuvoc and Troon. Then a less than full strength team (never a good idea against City!) faced City of Edinburgh who won comfortably in the league season opener. The following match against Su Ragazzi was truly epic! While there could be only one winner, both teams came off the court happy to be part of such a great match (set scores here). As you can see from the picture above, even after a loss, a match that good deserves some smiles.
W2 had great start to the season with a win away at Glasgow International with usual libero Jade being the star player as outside hitter! With triangular fixtures being used this year, the next matches against University of Edinburgh (EUVC) and Caledonia West (West) were played on the same day. A slow start made it difficult against EUVC and W2 couldn’t quite push the match into a fifth set. It was good to see the fighting spirit of the team and some very hard won points under pressure. The next match against West was an interesting one for me, coaching against my first volleyball coach, Jess Reid, with a team including pupils from my old high school. The young West team were confident after a strong finish to their match against EUVC and this led to a great match which Jets did well to win in the fifth.
It’s been a tough start for M1 and M2 still looking for a win but there are signs of improvement for both teams as new and returning players start to form an on court understanding. More hard work at training needed!
The new junior sessions are going well with 18 in attendance last week and this week Aileen will be joined by former Olympic captain, Lynne Beattie, at St. Augustine’s and Forresters High School. The sessions are for P6 to S6 and all levels of ability are welcome. Email email@example.com for more information.
